Aussie Green Thumb – Top Gardening Tips For Everyday People

Share Your Gardening Story Competition Winner

Share Your Gardening StoryLast month I ran a competition where people could share their gardening story. Thanks to everyone who entered, I really enjoyed reading your stories. The winner, by random selection, was Michelle Hart.

Michelle’s Gardening Story

My partner and i have been living in the new estate of Arion in Harrisdale for about a year now. There were no worries in the beginning as our front landscaping was done for us. However, we have been left to our own devices for the back – which is great. I am dyng to make it my own and have since subscribed to your newsletter for tips.

We have a display backyard so everyone that walks in the park that is adjacent to our house can see our backyard. A basic gardening pack will definately come in handy for this. Especially as we are so low on funds trying to get into the property market. Currently the backyard has a small patch of buffalo grass and not much else except for sand and weeds. We are sick of this appearance.

I have tried to attempt to cut grass in a straight line using scissors for cutting paper. After this was done I got an old trowel I borrowed from my father and tried to cut through the grass so i could pull it away and make an egde. All this while my partner slept. It took me several hours to do just one side. When he woke he helped me and was able to rip up the grass by hand that I had been struggling with for ages. Im sure if we had the right tools our backyard could become a masterpiece but at this stage cutting the grass with scissors is taking a little longer than anticipated. I’m sure the neighbours are as sick of what i have on show as I am looking at it.
