Fiskars Pruner

FISKARS PowerGearTM Pruner

FISKARS PowerGearTM Pruner (medium) is a certified Ease of Use garden tool product through Arthritis Australia.

This variety is a bypass secateur (don't understand what this is, find out here), and the large variety also comes as a bypass secateur.

I will be reviewing below based on the criteria set in my garden tools report which is available FREE when you sign up to my monthly newsletter tips which can be done by filling in the form on the right side bar (name and email).

How do they feel in your hand?
The FISKARS PowerGearTM has an innovative rolling handle design that is designed to follow the natural clenching motion to maximise power output and reduce stress and fatigue on the muscles and joints.

Because this is uncommon you will probably find that the tool feels strange at first but don't let this be an immediate turn off because other than the weirdness, I actually found it fit quite snugly in my hand.

It will take a little getting used to.

7/10

Is the safety latch easy to manoeuver?

I'll be a little blunt here and say no.

Unfortunately I found that the rolling motion design of the handle sometimes leads to the safety latch not matching with the hole it is designed to latch into which requires you to use both hands to re-match them together.

A good pair of secateurs enables you to use the safety latch with one hand only so I was disappointed here.

4/10

Is the blade sharp?

Normally this question is a black and white answer but I found these secateurs prove this is not always the case.

When I felt the blade I was impressed, it felt sharp and had a very good shape. When I used the tool the ergonomic and innovative handle design definitely meant that I had to exert less force to cut however I also found I had to close the blade all the way to cut through the limb.

Most secateurs I have used have been able to cut quickly and mean I can move from limb to limb with ease but I had some difficulty with the PowerGearTM Pruner not cutting all the way through the limb without really focusing on making sure it did. For a high use user they miss the mark in my opinion.

4/10

Does the tool feel hardy?

This was something I was impressed with. The PowerGearTM Pruner was light but solid. It has been very well put together with good quality products and gives the feel of a tool that will last the test of time.

8/10

General Comments

I was actually rather disappointed with the PowerGearTM Pruner after using the Hedge Shears which impressed me greatly. I almost feel like they are 'too' advanced, that in the desire to improve the tool some simple, important features have been let down.

Having said all this, they are definitely ease of use and even with the negative aspects, I'd still recommend these to Arthritis sufferers because they really don't require much force in cutting.

Overall 5/10
