Interview with Stephen Clark, GARDENA Australia’s Product Manager

A little while ago I got the chance to sit down and have a chat with Stephen Clark who is the Product Manager for GARDENA Australia.

Here at Aussie Green Thumb we have long been fans of the GARDENA product range, having previously reviewed the smart flow water meter which helps you track how much water you are using in your garden (hint: it’s great).

GARDENA is a well established brand originating in Germany with a reputation for high quality, durable products that will stand the test of time. I was excited to be able to gain a bit of an insight into the GARDENA research and production process and Stephen was really forthcoming with tips and ideas for working smarter in the garden.

From the Vault – Garden Product Review – Garden Sheds from Bunnings

This article was first released on March 21st, 2010. I thought I might bring it back to the front of the cue as autumn is quite a common time where people update their sheds, mostly because when the rain falls, they discover their old sheds have some serious leaks! So, if you are looking for a new shed perhaps consider the following!

Last month i reviewed the Stihl range of Brush Cutters. This month I am going to review a pretty important garden product that can significantly improve your garden and that is the humble garden shed. You might be wondering how a garden shed improves your gardening? Simply this, a good garden requires good tools. A good, solid, water-proof garden shed will keep your gardening tools better for longer, enabling you to better care for and maintain your garden.

Yesterday I reviewed FISKARS PowerGearTM Hedge Shears. Today I am going to be looking at the FISKARS PowerGearTM Pruner (Medium).

fiskars-prunerFISKARS PowerGearTM Pruner (Medium)
FISKARS PowerGearTM Pruner (medium) is a certified Ease of Use garden tool product through Arthritis Australia.

This variety is a bypass secateur (don’t understand what this is, find out here), and the large variety also comes as a bypass secateur.

I will be reviewing below based on the criteria set in my garden tools report which is available FREE when you sign up to my monthly newsletter tips which can be done by filling in the form on the right side bar (name and email).

How do they feel in your hand?
The FISKARS PowerGearTM has an innovative rolling handle design that is designed to follow the natural clenching motion to maximise power output and reduce stress and fatigue on the muscles and joints.

Because this is uncommon you will probably find that the tool feels strange at first but don’t let this be an immediate turn off because other than the weirdness, I actually found it fit quite snugly in my hand.

It will take a little getting used to.

7/10

Is the safety latch easy to manoeuver?

I’ll be a little blunt here and say no.

Unfortunately I found that the rolling motion design of the handle sometimes leads to the safety latch not matching with the hole it is designed to latch into which requires you to use both hands to re-match them together.

A good pair of secateurs enables you to use the safety latch with one hand only so I was disappointed here.

Buying Gardening Tools – Spades & Shovels

Hi there, thanks for checking out Aussie Green Thumb, I appreciate it. If you want more, including a free buyers guide to my favourite gardening tools, click here for all my best adviceexclusive content and FREE bonuses!

Spades and shovels are one of the most used tools when it comes to gardening. They serve a variety of purposes from breaking soil to shifting compost, from mixing concrete to shoveling leaves.

What has always amazed me though is many peoples inability to name a spade a spade.

Even I, up until about the age of 15, didn’t really ‘get’ the difference between a spade and a shovel so let me clear up the difference first.

In doing so it must be pointing that these are ‘general’ guidelines. The reason why spades and shovels get confused is because there is often very little difference but here are some fairly common differences. Let’s take a look.

Buying Garden Tools – Loppers

Hi there, thanks for checking out Aussie Green Thumb, I appreciate it. If you want more, including a free buyers guide for my top gardening tools, click here for all my best adviceexclusive content and FREE bonuses!

LoppersThis is the third installment in my buying garden tools series and for this article I will review what to look for when buying garden loppers.

Garden loppers, hedge shears and secateurs are the three most important tools a gardener can own for pruning plants.

Secateurs and Hedge Shears are good for trimming or pruning the skinny limbs of plants but there are times when pruning involves the removal of limbs thicker than your thumb.

If you trim these with secateurs or hedge shears you risk damaging the tool and it is for this very reason that loppers are a must-own tool for you.
